My dad is a Comfort cabbie.

Once one of his relief drivers accidentally pumped petrol into the tank at the start of his shift. Shocked

Luckily the engine was switched off and the taxi happened to be at a petrol station with a workshop attached.

The poor relief driver had to fork out a huge sum of dosh to drain the tank and clean it out. And he couldn't get to take the taxi out at all to hire passengers - he didn't earn a single penny at all during that shift.

And on top of that he still had to fork out rental to my dad for that shift.

My dad took pity on him and wanted to waive the rental for that shift.... but the relief driver was still nice enough to pay him anyway.

if he could pump petrol instead when hes a taxi driver, i wonder how focused he would be driving that day Confused

Well, I guess the poor relief driver was absent-minded on that day.

It could have been worse... had the engine been switched on, petrol would get into it and gum up the works. A REALLY expensive overhaul would then be needed.

I've been wondering.... which is the worse of two evils? Pumping petrol into a diesel engine, or pumping diesel into a petrol engine?

Dont think the result would have been that bad.

Once had a fren's dad pumped petrol into a diesel lorry.

Pump halfway then the dad realised its the wrong fuel.

stopped, but figuring it wont matter, he then drove the lorry to the other side, pump up half with diesel.

the lorry, surprisingly was running really efficient for that week. Neutral

I guess a diesel engine might still work with petrol, but with reduced performance. After all, diesel engines have higher pressures and temperatures which may cause the petrol to ignite too early.

I'm kinda surprised that the lorry's performance was as efficient as you said... I would have thought that the performance would be quite impaired due to the higher chance of 'knocking' from premature ignition of the petrol.

But then again, I know nuts about automobiles. Laughing

Yeah... in fact my dad usually pumps up at Comfort's in-house pumping stations.
